William Lee: Get on Your Ass!
Line of Events
In 1950s Mexico, a forty-year-old American immigrant lives a lonely life in the middle of a small American community. But the arrival of a young student pushes the man to finally have a meaningful relationship with someone. Daniel Craig was ultimately the one who convinced Luca Guadagnino to play Drew Starkey after watching Guadagnino’s audition tapes and telling him, “This is the guy,” upon seeing Starkey…
Or What’s Left After Four Years in the Navy
As seen on The Graham Norton Show: Daniel Craig / Nicola Coughlan / Jesse Eisenberg / Kieran Culkin / Flo (2024). Although it becomes truly surreal towards the end, Queen remains a very sensitive piece that revolves around a relationship where one person’s love far outweighs the love of another. The long chapters really make it seem like it’s happening, but it stays interesting throughout all four chapters.
Daniel Craig is extroverted as the lovelorn romantic
It’s on a very specific wavelength from the start, one that you either understand or completely reject. He’s extroverted and yet so lonely, which makes his desire to find Drew Starkey a partner all the more tragic as he continues despite Starkey’s indifference. Starkey himself is an enigma, speaking few words and giving just enough clues to keep Craig on track.
In supporting roles, Jason Schwartzman is hilarious and Lesley Manville is completely unrecognizable
Luca Guadagnino’s direction captures the yearning in such a beautiful, dirty, sweaty way, enhanced by the colorful locations and stylish, vintage costumes by Jonathan Anderson. The film’s score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross is a successful blend of their usual work and some new elements. The soundtrack is an unexpected highlight, and the song selection transcends the time period, but still works so well.
